Reporting to the Director of Category Strategy & Execution, the Associate Product Manager (APM) – Commercial Locks and New Technologies is responsible for researching and bringing new products to market. Working closely with the Product Manager, Residential Locks, and with the company’s overseas manufacturing partners, the APM facilitates the management of the Commercial Locks product lines and lifecycle in the US and Canada in accordance with the Category Strategic Roadmap. A skilled project manager and team leader, the APM brings together internal cross-functional teams to support the development of products through a Stage and Gate process starting from conception through to commercialization and launch.
The APM is also responsible for identifying and driving new technologies within the Door Hardware category. Working with the Director, Category Strategy and Execution and the Director, Product Design and Development, the APM will build an innovation and technology product schedule, with an acute focus on FOB/RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) Electronic Locks and Software systems, and will manage the product portfolio and lifecycle of the selected product lines within the assortment.
As well the APM coordinates a wide range of tactical projects to support their product lines, including writing and managing product documentation, coordinating packaging changes, supporting retail promotions and other product requirements including planning and selection, and regular supplier communications to coordinate work and meeting deadlines. Working in conjunction with multiple departments including sourcing, sales, QA, design, marketing, and operations; and liaising with external suppliers and factories, the APM is a key team member of the department, proactive in bringing products to market, recommending product improvements, and supporting customer programs.
Your qualifications, skills and abilities
- Education in business, engineering or related field
- 3-5 years of experience in comparable role
- Fluent use of English language both spoken and written
- Experience in the building products industry is desirable, specific experience with commercial locks, FOB/RFID systems an asset
- Knowledge of project management
- Ability to effectively communicate to suppliers and customers in an appropriate cultural context
- Ability to efficiently organize and structure own workload and cooperation with other team members
- Knowledge of software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Local travel may be required on occasion
