National Sales Manager – Independent Retail

Reporting to the VP Retail, the role of the National Sales Manager – Independent Retail is responsible for the development and performance of all IR sales activities in Canada and is located out of Mississauga, ON.  He/she staffs, mentors and coaches a sales team and provides leadership towards the achievement of Independent Retail sales and gross margin contribution targets and growth in line with company vision and values.  The National Sales Manager establishes plans and strategies to expand the IR market share in Canada and contributes to the development of training and educational programs supporting the success of our sales team within their territories with respect to the IR channel.



  • Contributes to the development and refinement of a business plan, sales strategy, initiatives and tactics for the Canadian IR and IRDC channel in alignment with our corporate strategic plan that ensures attainment of company sales and gross margin contribution targets, including the following sectors:
    • Independent Retail Dealers including Building Supply Stores, Hardware Stores, Kitchen and Bath Specialists, Plumbing Specialists, Locksmiths,  Building Supply Distributors, Home Décor Stores
    • Retail Buying Group Member Dealers including those aligned to Big Box such as Rona
    • Independent Retail DC’s
  • Manages 8 direct reports and 4 external sales agents
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with key decision makers at national buying groups 
  • Manage and lead the Taymor team through:  Line reviews, program roll-outs, store resets, new store openings, trade shows, and promotional offers
  • Responsible for the development of a high performance sales team culture
  • Ensures accurate records are maintained of all pricing, sales, market share data, customer contacts, opportunities and Hunting List activity reports
  • Cooperates with Marketing in building sales tools and presentations
  • Assists Product Management to develop the right products, programs, planograms and processes that meet time to market requirements, to succeed in growing our retail market share and achieving our gross margin contribution targets
  • Works with Supply Chain in sales and operational planning to optimize our inventory performance and on-time delivery performance with our IR channel customers
  • Teamwork with National Sales Manager - New Construction  and Key Account Manager

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field
  • Minimum 8 years of sales experience, preferably selling to home improvement retailers
  • Minimum 4 years at sales management level
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, driving and leading sales teams
  • Proven track record managing a high performance team winning new business, growing existing business, and selling promotional buys
  • Expertise in building retail programs and planograms an asset
  • Spoken and written French are an asset
  • Strong technical aptitude, ability understand and clearly communicate product features and benefits for broad product range
  • Advanced skill at preparing interactive PowerPoint presentations
  • Ability to lead and/or be part of a cross functional team to deliver on set goals
  • Strong ability to influence and negotiate
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout Canada  as required
